The NFL has become one of the most popular sports leagues in America. This is not a lie. As Americans we love our football. The long pass, breakout run, or even the rare Hail Mary. But since when did a little celebration after a touchdown become so controversial? Now there are some over the top celebrations, like this
but when as something as simple as this is wrong?
The NFL has become the "No Fun League" for a reason. As fans, we go and watch these sports for entertainment. I am sure it is more entertaining when the players who scores their touchdown to celebrate. But it has to be within reason. You do not need props, nor do need to bring entire team on the field.
A good example of celebrations come from hockey. After every goal scored, the players gather together, congratulate the scorer, and tap gloves with their team at the bench. That is more than enough.
Of course there are exceptions to the rule. When a team wins something big or goes on to the next round of the playoffs then there is cause for excessive celebrations.
Celebrations are great for any game. As long as it does not go overboard....

ReplyDeleteDo players get fine for these "celebrations"? i remember when TO did his stunts he got fined i think, but i dnt remember how much?
ReplyDeletei think that celebration was good, but in moderation, like everything else.
Good blog idea. The videos were pretty funny. I like how your blog was more about watching videos than reading. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteI love clever celebrations. The NFL is way too conservative. I think thats the reason why they created the XFL. But things got out of hand when people were getting hurt before the game started in a ridiculous cointoss.
ReplyDeleteCelebrations are better than the games sometimes. Its just a problem when they become more of an issue than the games. Good post.
ReplyDeleteCelebrations are great, but I don't like it when some athletes take it too far. For example the guy that had the cell phone hidden in the goal post (I think that's where he hid it). So tacky.
